H&M is suing its fast fashion rival Shein in a copyright infringement case filed in Hong Kong, H&M confirmed in an email to Fashion Dive Tuesday.
“We believe that Shein in multiple cases has infringed on our designs and have therefore filed this lawsuit,” an H&M spokesperson said.
The suit names Zoetop Business Co. Ltd., Shein Group Limited, and Pinjun Express Co. Limited as defendants.
H&M said it declined to comment further because the case is still ongoing. Shein also declined to comment on pending litigation.
The suit has been ongoing since 2021, and the next hearing is scheduled for July 31, per a Bloomberg report.
This isn’t the only infringement case filed against Shein recently. Earlier this month, a group of independent designers filed suit against Shein, alleging that it “produced, distributed, and sold exact copies of their creative work.” That suit was brought under the racketeering law known as the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act, or RICO.
Shein is also facing legal complaints from another fast fashion rival, Temu. That suit claims Shein violated United States antitrust laws in an alleged scheme to lock up its supply chain. Both companies are also involved in another suit, with Shein claiming Temu was mimicking Shein on social media and in web ads designed to trick customers into downloading the Temu app.
