Dive Insight:
California-based designer Reese Cooper debuted his first menswear collection in Paris for fall-winter 2018, and launched a womenswear collection in spring-summer 2020, per the brand’s website.
This is the first release under his RCOS label, and it aims to create a framework for future collections inspired by Cooper’s collaborators, per the release. Cooper has previously collaborated with brands including Levi's and Merrell, and his brand was named runner up in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2019.
Cooper “began quietly developing a line of outdoor products” in 2021, and Pacsun saw the line as a way to bring the designer’s aesthetic to market “at an accessible price point,” per the release.
“Our collaboration with Reese explores fashion inspired by the outdoor lifestyle and technical innovation, while also nodding to Americana and the fits that resonate with our customers,” Richard Cox, vice president of men’s merchandising and global partnerships at Pacsun, said in the announcement.
The line features muted neutral tones with pops of lavender, safety orange and camouflage. It aims to combine aesthetic elements of city living with nature in order to appeal to customers who are influenced by both environments, the release said. Pieces include shells with taped-seams, insulated outerwear, cargo pants, hoodies and sweatpants, as well as materials such as nylon, sherpa fleece, waffle knits, heavyweight cottons and polyester compression fabric. Designs also include custom rock pullers and zippers, as well as branded buttons and toggles.
The line’s in-studio lookbook was shot by creative director Cam Hicks and stylist Juliana Salazar. The accompanying campaign follows Cooper and friends on a Pacific Coast road trip and was shot by photographer Stefan Kohli, according to the announcement.
“As someone who has always been in awe of the outdoors, especially living in California, I wanted this collection to be as accessible as possible like the environments it is inspired by,” Cooper said in the release. “Designed and influenced with my friends in mind, the ethos of RCOS is to create product that holds up in all environments, for any activity, whether that's running around in the city or on a mountain.”
A percentage of sales from items sold through Pacsun and Cooper’s channels will be donated to organizations that support outdoor exploration and nature preservation, including long-time Cooper partner One Tree Planted, per the release.
