Perry Ellis International, Inc. has entered a licensing agreement with Peerless Clothing International to produce mens’ tailored clothing, Perry Ellis announced Tuesday.
The agreement includes Perry Ellis’ Original Penguin line as well as its namesake brand in the U.S. and Canada. Product categories to be launched through the agreement include suit separates, nested suits, tuxedos, sports coats and men’s top coats. The tailored collection will be available in stores beginning spring 2024.
This marks the return of Peerless Clothing to the Perry Ellis portfolio. The companies entered another license agreement for boys’ tailored clothing in 2016.
“We are invigorated by the opportunity to reintroduce our signature Perry Ellis and Original Penguin styles in the world of tailored clothing," Oscar Feldenkreis, president and CEO of Perry Ellis, said in the release. "This partnership underscores our commitment to delivering quality and style to our loyal customers, and we look forward to a bright future together."
The license deal with Perry Ellis marks a step toward Peerless increasing its foothold in the tailored clothing segment, per the release.
Peerless recently landed another licensing agreement with Authentic Brands Group for Vince-branded menswear. Peerless and Authentic also have agreements on Hart Schaffner Marx, Van Heusen, Shaquille O’Neal and Hickey Freeman.
Peerless produces for several other brands, including Calvin Klein, Lauren Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger.
The fashion industry has been increasingly invested in menswear, fine tailoring in particular. Sales of menswear outpaced those of both women and children over the past 12 months, consumer advisor agency Circana told Fashion Dive earlier this year. Higher prices, especially for men’s suits, played a role in driving those increases. Meanwhile, physical storefronts including Bergdorf Goodman and Ralph Lauren in Canada have expanded to include tailoring.
