Mugler announced Tuesday that Miguel Castro Freitas would be its next creative director, according to a statement posted on Instagram and LinkedIn.
“It is an honour to join the spectacular house of Mugler,” Freitas said in the statement. “As one of the 20th century’s great couturiers, Mr. Mugler reimagined the power and limits of fashion. Alongside the teams, I am thrilled to bring my own vision, story and emotion to this monumental heritage.”
Freitas succeeds Casey Cadwallader, who had been with Mugler since 2018. The company did not disclose the terms of Cadwallader’s departure or announce his next move.
Prior to joining Mugler, Freitas held design roles at Sportmax, Dries Van Noten and Christian Dior, according to WWD. The publication also reported that the designer’s first collection in his new role will be shown in September during Paris Fashion Week’s spring-summer 2026 presentations.
Mugler is owned by L’Oréal, which acquired the brand in 2020 from Groupe Clarins.
