Dive Brief:
- Outerwear brand Moncler is launching a capsule collaboration with Pharrell Williams, a musician and LVMH’s menswear designer, according to a company statement.
- Monlcer said glamping — a portmanteau of "glamorous" and "camping" — inspired the line, which features multifunctional pieces, including trousers that convert to shorts, a duvet blanket that functions as a cape, and a convertible jacket with zip-off sleeves.
- The collection comes a month after Moncler launched a capsule with Billionaire Boys Club, the streetwear brand co-owned by Williams.
Dive Insight:
Williams has been working in fashion as a brand collaborator and with BBC, which he launched with partner Nigo in 2003. His partnership with Moncler began in 2009, and over the years, outerwear has become a staple of his personal style and various collections and collabs.
For this collection, Moncler stated that functionality would be at the center of the designs, from removable pockets and “attachable keyrings” to detachable logo patches, which allow the wearer to “mark their pieces however they prefer.”
The capsule, which will be available on Sept. 22 in select Moncler boutiques and through the brand’s e-commerce channel, will also lean heavily on vests and jackets, and come in shades of “slate gray and moss green; lichen and cloud,” per the release.
Although prices are unknown, pieces in the BBC collaboration ranged from $290 for a wool jacquard beanie to $3,380 for a wool and leather varsity jacket.
On Sept. 21, the collection will be available “one day early at an exclusive installation” in the Antonia store at Via Sant'Andrea in Milan and through that retailer’s e-commerce site.
Luxury outerwear brand Moncler, based in Italy, is owned by entrepreneur Remo Ruffini, who bought the company out of near-bankruptcy in 2003. Moncler Group, which also owns Stone Island, reported H1 revenues of 1.14 billion euros, or approximately $1.22 billion, an increase of 24% compared to $918.4 million in the first half of 2022.
