Dive Insight:
BBC has previously collaborated with brands including watchmaker G-Shock, accessories brand Kangol and Japanese heritage puffer jacket brand First Down.
The Moncler partnership was promoted on social media in posts earlier in August, and in June, Ross Westland, creative director of BBC and Icecream Europe told WWD the collection would be sold through Moncler, BBC’s flagship stores and its e-commerce platform and “some other partners, including Selfridges and Ssense.”
The Moncler x Billionaire Boys Club collection sports a new combined logo, merging Moncler lettering with BBC’s signature astronaut motif. Outerwear features include a down-filled Melton wool varsity jacket with BBC reflective embroidery, Nappa lambskin leather sleeves, nylon laqué lining, and a removable drawstring hood. There’s also a down-filled puffer jacket with removable sleeves and hood, embossed with BBC’s Diamond & Dollar print. Other items include t-shirts, joggers and baseball caps, as well as two colorways of the puffy Trailgrip Après Boot, in black and camo, a Williams signature print.
The Billionaire Boys Club was co-founded in 2003 by Williams, Rob Walker and Nigo, the latter of which is also known for his work as the creator of cult streetwear line A Bathing Ape. In 2022, Nigo was appointed artistic director of the French luxury brand Kenzo. He’s a producer who has worked with musicians including brothers Pusha T and No Malice of the hip hop duo Clipse, who appear in the Moncler collaboration campaign. BBC does not disclose revenues, but a recent ZoomInfo estimate places the company’s revenue at approximately $7.7 million.
Meanwhile, luxury outerwear brand Moncler, founded in 1952, is currently based in Italy and owned by Italian entrepreneur Remo Ruffini, who bought the brand out of near-bankruptcy in 2003. Moncler Group’s most recent revenues, for 2022, were reported in excess of 2.6 billion euros, or approximately $2.8 billion.
When Williams was tapped to design the LVMH menswear line, it was understood that his other endeavors would benefit from the appointment, despite his already high-profile status as an entrepreneur, producer, musician and philanthropist.
In 2016 Williams and his partners bought back a 50% share in BBC, which they had previously sold to Iconix Brands Group. No financial terms for the deals were disclosed. The current company includes BBC, Ice Cream, Beeline and Billionaire Girls Club. Its flagship stores are located in New York, Miami, London, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
