Michael Rider has been named creative director of LVMH-owned luxury house Céline, according to a LinkedIn announcement from the brand.
In May, Polo Ralph Lauren announced that Rider would leave his role as creative director of brand, after joining the brand in 2018.
Rider was previously design director for ready-to-wear at Céline, where he spent nearly 10 years working under Phoebe Philo, the label’s former creative director. Prior to that, Rider worked for four years with Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga.
Rider replaces Hedi Slimane, who joined the brand in February 2018 and replaced Philo. Slimane’s last collection for the luxury house was his spring-summer 2025 show, presented during Paris Fashion Week on Sept. 29.
While no formal announcement has been made, it’s likely Rider will present his first collection for Céline in Paris in early 2025.
