Lucie and Luke Meier, who were co-creative directors at Jil Sander, announced their departure in individual posts on Instagram Wednesday. They had been with the brand since 2017.
The news came hours after the husband-and-wife design team presented their fall-winter collection for the OTB Group-owned label during Milan Fashion Week.
“Luke and I are touched to have presented our last collection for Jil Sander after 8 years with the house,” Lucie Meier wrote in her post. “We want to thank everyone that has been involved and contributed their skill, creativity, and energy. We are so proud of all we have achieved together, and even more proud of the wonderful friendships we have made.”
Luke Meier’s post was nearly identical. Neither designer disclosed future plans, and Jil Sander has not named a replacement.
This marks a second creative director change for an OTB brand in recent months. In December, John Galliano announced his departure from OTB-owned Maison Margiela after 10 years. The following month, OTB named Glenn Martens creative director of the label. Martens is also the creative director of OTB-owned denim and lifestyle brand Diesel.
The abrupt departure of Lucie and Luke Meier follows a recent pattern of creative director shuffling in the luxury fashion sector, which left several positions vacant at the start of 2025. Earlier this month, Gucci Creative Director Sabato De Sarno left his role, just ahead of the company’s planned Milan show, which took place this week under the direction of Gucci’s in-house design team.
These changes in design direction reflect larger instability within the luxury category, which has posted mixed earnings over the past year, as some companies flourish while others struggle against challenging economic headwinds.
At OTB, which posted fiscal 2024 results earlier this month, net sales were down nearly 5% year over year. The company, which named a new CEO and chief strategy officer for Jil Sander at the beginning of the month, did not report separate sales figures for the brand.
