Cult streetwear brand Palace Skateboards is partnering with Dr. Martens on a three-piece footwear collection, according to a Monday press release.
The collaboration offers iterations of Dr. Martens’ 1461 Oxford in black, red or camo colorways. Shoes feature a smooth leather upper, lugged outsole and a yellow welt stitch, per the release.
As part of the line’s co-branding, the shoes feature a Palace-branded bottle cap lace charm “inspired by the 1988 trend for attaching Grolsch swing-top bottle caps” to the 1461-style shoes, per the release. In a first for the Dr. Martens brand, the collaboration also features a special-edition heel loop that replaces the company’s “AirWair” text with the word “Palace.”
Each pair costs $170, and the collection will be available April 11 at Palace retail stores and through the company’s website. It launches on the Dr. Martens website April 14.
A short film featuring poet John Cooper Clarke, Palace skaters Charlie Birch and Lucien Clarke and actor and model Serena Motola will accompany the launch.
Palace was founded in 2009 and has been expanding its presence in the mainstream fashion industry. Last year, the London-based brand launched a 55-piece collection with Gap featuring adult and children’s apparel, skate decks and a plush toy.
Earlier this month, Dr. Martens announced the launch of an anniversary boot to commemorate the brand’s 65th anniversary. That boot, called the “Pascal Love Letter,” is a rendition of Dr. Martens’ 1460 design, and only 1,460 pairs are being produced.
Meanwhile, Dr. Martens is under new leadership. Ije Nwokorie was promoted from chief brand officer to CEO in January, succeeding Kenny Wilson. That month, the company’s creative director, Darren McKoy, also exited. McKoy’s replacement has not been named.
In its third quarter earnings in January, Dr. Martens posted a revenue decline of 3% year over year to 260 million pounds, or about $336.4 million at January’s exchange rates.
