Dive Insight:
The annual report from StockX covers 2024 trends and makes predictions about 2025. In addition to tracking which brands see the most sales, StockX also tracks growth.
China-based brand Anta was the fastest growing sneaker label on the platform in 2024. The report said Kyrie Irving’s signature shoe, called the Kai 1, helped drive the brand to a staggering 1,901% year-over-year increase in platform sales, which StockX refers to as trades.
Maison Margiela was the second fastest growing sneaker brand, with trades up 425% year over year. Meanwhile, Saucony was the fifth fastest-growing sneaker brand, with trades up 120%. This marks the first time the brand has landed in the top 5 for growth, which the platform attributed to the company’s big investments and high-profile collaborations including those with Jae Tips, Bodega and Minted New York.
Gucci and Timberland were the fastest growing non-sneaker shoes brands, with trades up 410% and 237%, respectively. StockX credited Gucci’s sandals and pool slides for the brand’s growth, and said Timberland’s collaborations with Louis Vuitton, Supreme and JJJJound were pivotal. Also relevant was The Notorious B.I.G. Wheat, which Timberland released in September in honor of the late musician’s “Ready To Die” album, which celebrated its 30th anniversary.
In apparel, Polo Ralph Lauren sales were up 600%, making it the fastest growing brand in the category in 2024. StockX said the growth was due to “the emergence of Ralphcore on TikTok,” which led to a new generation of consumers who “embraced and even redefined what the label stands for.”
Looking ahead to 2025, StockX said new brands would take hold in the competitive sneaker resale market. Creativity would also win over consumers, as evidenced by the popularity of New Balance’s 1906 sneaker loafer, the Simone Rocha collab with Crocs, and the enduring appeal of MSCHF’s Big Red Boots, per the report.
Newer apparel brands, such as Hellstar and Revenge, “are seeing rapid growth, suggesting streetwear is not dead as some have reported over the last year,” StockX said. In addition, Tremaine Emory’s Denim Tears streetwear brand is the platform’s third fastest-growing apparel label.
The report also said there could be a recovery in terms of resale prices and price premiums with respect to Nike and Jordan Brand, “assuming the sportswear giant honors its promise to return to a model centered around scarcity.”
“The resale market proved its resilience in 2024, with more than 100 brands closing the year with record sales on StockX,” Greg Schwartz, co-founder and CEO of StockX, said in the release. “We’re incredibly optimistic about the year ahead. Whatever 2025 has in store — whether that be new names in streetwear, viral collectibles brands, or a fresh set of players in the sneaker space — our product offering will continue to diversify to serve our customers as new trends take hold.”
